What I’m up to

Hi, I’m Justin Kuiper!

Public essays and other stuff I’ve written:

See my Substack (and, for more frivolous posts, Tumblr). I also wrote this ACX Book Review Contest finalist entry a few years ago.

YouTube

I can credibly claim to be an “award winning YouTube scriptwriter” thanks to the Streamy Awards including “writing” as a category. Since 2017 I’ve written hundreds of videos that have collectively garnered over half a billion views. Here’s a page elaborating on that further (with links to some notable videos I’ve worked on).

In 2025, I started writing about the economics of YouTube on my Substack.

I am the recent recipient of an Emergent Ventures grant, and in 2026, I plan to spend a lot more time talking about the ways that progress is good (and how we can get more of it), with videos covering topics like why milk costs $9/gallon in Hawaii.

I also make video games:

I wrote and co-designed Idol Manager, a game that explores the highs and lows of running a Japanese idol group. It originally released on Steam in 2021, and as of August 2022, it’s now available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5.

Necrobarista launched on Steam in 2020 (also available on Nintendo Switch). I contributed a bunch of stories to this game, including the two (free) DLC chapters Walking to the Sky and Devil’s Den.

Contact:

Email is probably the best way to get in touch with me. I’m also on Twitter. Getting unsolicited feedback on my projects (no matter how old) always puts a smile on my face.
